Improved Credit Score After Bankruptcy

After my bankruptcy, I tried fixing some errors in the credit reports, hoping to raise my score. After all – since my Chapter 7 bankruptcy was discharged, all my debts were now zeroed out, but not so on my credit report. So I logged into each of the three major credit service bureaus’s web sites, and submitted my dispute letter electronically. The responses came back a month later -  everything looked fine to them! Then I got the “Attorney’s Credit Repair Guide” and tried one thing.  I boosted my FICO score to 642 — up over 70 points! I am now at 24% percentile (stilll below average), but a home mortage at 5.720% would be possible now.

So what one thing did I do?

Here’s a hint, get the Guide below. But what I did was go to page 7. I just called the creditor directly (it was Discover), and got a nice person on the phone. I explained the situation (I had a BK discharged, so balance should be zero). A couple weeks later, I got the credit score increase.

There are many more techniques explained in this guide. But I am lazy, and do not really want to take on anymore credit right now. If you need to fix up your score so you can perhaps consolidate some credit card balances at a lower rate, then try some of these tricks yourself. You really don’t need to pay someone else to do it (unless you are lazy like me – then check my link to Lexington Law further below – they are the best at credit repair).

To get your credit reports, remember that you can get one free each 12 months using https://www.annualcreditreport.com. But to get your credit score, you might want to use MyFICO like I do.
